I was promised sweets - An Edible Exhibition
NOTE
From the beginning of this project I was interested in creating an edible exhibition. Many food events I had attended felt similar to regular dinners, just with more narrative. Because we are so used to eating to satisfy hunger, I often had to remind myself to approach the food more consciously.
By placing food on pedestals and lighting it like an exhibit, I wanted to shift the power dynamic. Visitors no longer arrive expecting to be served. Instead, they must be encouraged to touch and taste the work. This disrupts both the conventions of eating and those of art, creating an in-between space where the viewer becomes an active participant.
I hosted a small trial experience with a camera on a tripod automatically taking photos to document the interactions unobtrusively. One participant later described the experience as unexpectedly memorable weeks after it happened.
