I was promised sweets

I Was Promised Sweets is a video-based installation that combines moving image and edible sculpture. The project consists of three pieces—Tell Me, How Does Anger Taste?, I Tried to Remove All the Bitter Parts for You, and The House Itself Is Not Home Sweet Home—each paired with a corresponding food sculpture: frozen popcorn, a dissected grapefruit, and a waffle structure.

Developed through an associative process of collage and tactile research, the project traces personal narratives of self-silencing, suppressed anger, and invisible labor. These narratives unfold through the figure of the “good girl,” shaped by social expectations to remain accommodating, pleasant, and self-sacrificing.

When presented as an installation, the sculptures can be touched and tasted, introducing a sensory dimension that brings the body into relation with the narratives on screen. Across its different forms, I Was Promised Sweets reflects on how anger, care, and compliance are negotiated and performed within everyday life.
